My MP-530 would try to boot up making a noise like something slipping or grinding, ending with ERROR Code 5100.
Solution:Open the Lid. The drive belt was loose and not able to drive thecarriage. There is a gear on the right side of the carriage and apulley on the left side of the carriage. The spring which holds thepulley tight is missing or broken. I was not able to see the tensionspring. To put tension on the pulley, to tighten the drive belt, I cuta Popsicle stick into a wedge and inserted it into the middle slotright of the pulley.
Close the lid and power back on. Runs like new. Hope this helps.
