I made the mistake of trying to clean my HP 1120C DeskJet printer and now it just flashes the yellow and green light's on the front of the unit and I have Re-set and uninstalled till I am ready to just buy another printer a non HP for sure!! I just cleaned the rollers and removed the excess ink from the ink well and cotton swabed the other ink covered spots in and around where the cartridges sit. What can I check to try and salvage this printer ?

Jean: As an "HP Authorized Service Provider", there's only so much information and help that I can legally give. There's of course no way for me to actually know whats wrong with your printer. It's possible that you may even have an actual HARDWARE PROBLEM [parts problem], or its possible that your printer just needs cleaning, servicing and or lubrication. There are two possible areas that may need servicing, the "carriage assembly" and the "encoder strip/sensor strip". I will e-mail some general information to you, that might help if you want to attempt the cleaning...Good Luck! Denny Conway

I have what seems like a similar problem with my HP DeskJet 882C. All of a sudden (not after cleaning or anything), the carriage stalls and makes a grinding sound in the middle and all the lights start flashing. I tried unplugging, turning it off, putting cartridges in and out, putting in new cartridges ... no use. I'm not sure what I should be trying to visually inspect, or how to lubricate it. I am unable to move the cartridge assembly manually when it stalls.

DOLFANBOB: There are three LED's/Lights on the "1120C": top led=power light; middle led=resume/paper light; bottom led=cartridge light...I'm assuming that the POWER LIGHT and the PAPER/RESUME LIGHT are the two led's that are FLASHING [you'll have to correct me if I'm wrong]. That normally indicates that there is either a PAPER JAM or CARRIAGE STALL/PROBLEM...I think you would know if there were a paper jam condition. How about checking for a torn piece of paper stuck in a sensor, or even a piece of COTTON from the cleaning you performed. Its always possible that during the cleaning, you may have dislodged a PAPER SENSOR ASSEMBLY or its PLASTIC ARM, from its pivot points/holder assy. So you may want to do a close visual inspection of that area...Its possible that the "carriage assembly" is DIRTY or DRY. If you happened to clean the carriage bar with alcohol, or another cleaner, it may just need lubricated correctly. Also be sure the Ink cartridges are correctly installed and locked in place normally, so they are not catching or hanging up on something. See if you can manually move [slide] the "print cartridge holder assy" from side to side easily[power must be off and assy in the unlocked position]. If that assy sticks, or catches on something, that may be your problem...QUESTION: If your printer is turned off and turned back on, is there any GRINDING NOISES, RATCHETING NOISES, or SLAMMING NOISE?...Let me know thru this "printer repair site" and if I can help you further, I will try...Good Luck!
